Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent most of her childhood living in Chicago. Amy lived with her family in Chicago while she was in junior high school. Parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the oldest of three siblings: Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has traveled across Europe both with her family and also independently. Because her parents worked as teachers who taught, they could spend every summer together traveling and camping all across the United States. They've camped in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy was also in Rwanda after the 1994 war to aid in relief efforts. Amy was a gifted actor in school productions and was a winner of writing contests. She was a promising athlete at high school and took part in the very first 3200-meter relay on the Illinois girls track. After an injury, she returned to college and performed in a variety of roles on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth Of July” and later directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Da and Lemon”. Amy was a Knox College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with a B.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. Following graduation, she relocated to Chicago where she pursued studies in Improv at The Improv Olympics as well as acting at The Actor's Center. An acting contract on the now-defunct soap drama Another World (1964) moved her to NYC right after graduating. The category she was nominated for is "Outstanding supporting actress in a Daytime Drama Series", she was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards. Her most memorable roles included those of strong women as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler, her husband and Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She is also the owner of Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and is employed as part-owner. Amy continues to write and seek out diverse and unique films and roles.
